STONY PLAIN REAL ESTATE

Stony Plain is an agricultural centre just 15 minutes west of Edmonton on Highway 16. Early settlers were attracted by plentiful water, fish and game in 1881. In 1892, the community's name was changed from Dogrump Creek to Stony Plain when a post office was named for the region. In 1907, Stony Plain's first Sheriff, Israel Umbach, made national headlines when he chained a locomotive to the railway tracks for non-payment of taxes and changing the course of history. Stony Plain was officially incorporated as a town in 1908.

The community's history is kept alive through its Murals, historic sites, Multicultural Heritage Centre, festivals and events. 16 murals around the town's "Heritage Walk" depict the town's history. Residents enjoy a superior lifestyle - modern recreational facilities, three school jurisdictions, an extensive Trail System, arts and cultural amenities, and a vibrant downtown core.

Today, Stony Plain has a population of over 9,500 residents and it's land mass covers over 27 square kilometers.
