Turner Valley Alberta Turner Valley is a picturesque community nestled in the foothills of the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains, only 35 minutes from Calgary and on the edge of Kananaskis Country.

South of Millarville you will find the Turner Valley/Black Diamond district. Valley is the birthplace of Alberta's oil and gas industry, the site of the 1914 Dingman #1 well that began Calgary's first oil boom. Turner Valley boasts a remarkable history as not only the first major oilfield in Alberta but at one time the largest oil producer in the British Empire. As you pass through Turner Valley you will see the Western Decalta Petroleums site as well as the remnants of several wells.

With its quaint shops, artisan studios and breathtaking scenery, tourism is also a major economic force in Turner Valley as is its growing artisan population has been attracted to the area to enjoy the magnificent scenery and breathe the fresh mountain air.

Today, Turner Valley has a population of over 1,500 residents and it's land mass covers over 5 square kilometers.
